New York City, the city that never sleeps. A city where 8,5 million people speak 300 different languages. In NYC, within 5 districts there are over 1,700 coffee shops – and 272 of them are Starbucks.

Six years ago London Coffee Festival was born, and today it's THE event to explore coffee culture, breathe barista lifestyle and find new trends. At the festival, you get to meet enthusiast roasters, product manufactures, baristas, and other industry professionals. It is so inspiring to see and feel their love and knowledge of this amazing beverage called coffee.

Coffee itself is a trend but what is happening around it during the year 2018? Will there be a new cold brew coffee? What is the role of barista in 2018? What’s the most exciting brewing method? As a barista, it is important to follow what’s going on in the coffee scene, we often are the ones to introduce the trends to the cafés and customers. What do you think is the most exciting coffee related trend this year? Here are my predictions for coffee trends in 2018.

Coffee is a lifestyle and one way to showcase the love for coffee is coffee tattoos. By inking pictures of a coffee tree or a coffee cup, a true coffee lover tells others that I am serious about this, coffee is my passion. I had a cup of coffee with few coffee people who have inked coffee graphics on their skin and asked them to share the stories behind their coffee tattoos.

World of Coffee, the ’Oscar Gala’ in the coffee world, was held this year in Amsterdam, from 21-23 of June. While most of Estonians celebrated Midsummer day - made camp fires, barbecued and enjoyed the longest night of the year - I took part of World of Coffee, where the World Barista Championship competition took place this year. I saw and discovered new coffee trends  and machines, new origins, varieties and listened to lectures on various different subjects.

There are already blogs about Tallinn and Vilnius  cafés offering specialty coffee. I realized we lack a blog post about Riga cafeterias, so in July I decided to visit cafés in Riga - and to be exact the ones specialized in serving spectacular coffee.
