I love developing flavor and exploring new tastes. One of the most important things at my work is trying to make new coffees taste as good as possible by roast profiling.
I’m Sampo Latvakangas, Paulig Kulma Roaster & Barista Expert. I got interested in coffee when I was 13 years old. I understood that coffee can taste so different depending on the origin country, process, roast, and preparing.
I love developing flavor and exploring new tastes by tasting new coffees from different origin countries. One of the most important things at my work is trying to make new coffees taste as good as possible by roast profiling.
I have competed in Finnish national competitions in Barista Championship, Brewers Cup and Cup Tasters. I have been second in Finnish Cup Tasters and fourth in both Finnish Barista Championships and Finnish Brewers Cup.
I am also passionate about chemistry, and I study food science and technology at University of Helsinki. I am super interested in the science behind coffee flavor such as chemical reactions during roasting. I hope I can share my knowledge with you.
Fun fact: I have been roasting my own coffees since I was 14.
